| Commentary | Carina is an older suburb of Brisbane that was settled in the 1940s. Surrounded by the neighbouring suburbs of Camp Hill, Carindale, Mount Gravatt East and Tingalpa, Carina is a thriving Brisbane suburb. Housing styles include post-war weatherboards, a selection of older Queenslander homes with sweeping verandas and a smaller selection of post-war chamferboard homes.
In neighbouring Carina Heights there are more brick and tile homes and the suburb's older-style housing commission homes have been rejuvenated by young first-home buyers. This has increased the price of these types of homes in the area. Community infrastructure is more than adequate with a major hospital only 10 minutes away and a number of doctors in the area. Primary schools include Carina, Belmont and Camp Hill State schools along with St Martins Catholic Primary School. High schools include Camp Hill and Cavendish Road State Schools and San Sisto College. Griffith University and Moreton Institute of TAFE are nearby. Shopping facilities include close access to the large Carindale Shopping Centre and smaller centres in Carina, Belmont and Mt Gravatt East. The suburb has many walk and bikeways, parks and waterways, and includes the Clem Jones Sporting Complex housing many sports facilities. The suburb has access to very good bus transport and its nearest railway station is in nearby Cannon Hill - five minutes drive away. As the suburb has been established for some time, there is little vacant land left for either residential or commercial/retail development. Source: REIQ |
